Online teaching and learning is a relatively new approach that has evolved with the advent of the internet and the web. The course discusses the trends in online learning and the various terminologies adopted to describe online learning. Also examined is the difference between conventional and online teaching and various misconceptions about online learning, the roles and responsibilities of the teacher and learners in the online space, the pros and cons of online learning, challenges in making the transition to online learning.
Provides essential information about how people learn, the effects of distance on the online learner, and the implications of these effects for teaching and designing online courses. Learning theories and frameworks for the online environment are discussed. The competencies needed by online teachers and students, the role of interaction and active learning at a distance, and strategies for effective design and instruction online will be addressed
